My head is spinning. After I tell my daughter, from across the room, to "click on the disk icon," I notice that she is becoming frustrated. She finally asks me to show her what I'm talking about.
It was then that I realized that the 3.5 inch floppy disk icon that represents "Save" has little meaning to a generation that has not had to deal with this artifact! If I had just said, "click on the Save button," all would have been well! I suddenly feel quite ancient... indeed, new PC's these days don't even have a 3.5" drive!
I wonder how much longer the disk icon will continue to be used? Eventually, it will become a glyph that people will use but no one will be left who remembers what it originally represented. X.x
