« Thread started on: Oct 7th, 2009, 2:47pm »

*just starting the thread, I'll go into detail tonight unless someone beats me to it*

Starts THIS SUNDAY srsly.. its a big deal. Be there.

This tourny marked the first of its kind. There was NO elimanations and the server was not locked until the final round (to keep the teams even and no fresh mechs) We simply added up the top scores and the top 2 players became the team commanders. This worked out great! No elimanations meant no lucky dog passes or anything like that. That made the game quite extreme at times though due to the firepower of these huge mechs. And that = awesomeness.

And now screenshots!

*note* OTC Wyrmsfire was on team 2 but after he ran out of lives he left the server. The game was 100% even during gameplay.

A TOUGH TOURNY! Thanks to everyone who played in it and making it possible! Congrats Ra! Ra beats out SpiffCat and crew and won the tourny. Now here is how this all went down so you'll know next time Team Mates were determined by a roll of a 6 sided die. Evens and Odds. Once 1 team had 5 players all other players went to team 2 by default. I can't tell you how useful team speak was during this. (Thanks Savage) Once we used up our 5 lives we got to watch the action but could not zoom out. Trying to give a play by play to your team mates on TS seems like cheating but when you can only give descriptions like "see the blue crane in the distance with the 2 trees that are slightly burned? Yea, they are coming from that area. Keep watch!" it becomes apparent that no one could get any sort of detail from watching the action like that. (Also both teams were doing this once they ran out of lives) This was a great pop corn munching final round. Dr. Zarkov and Ra VS Firewolf and SpiffCat. It was a great round.

Thanks again and see you all next time!

cool

The Columbus Day Massacre was a great success! We had a lot of folks show up, early even, for the games! We switched it up a bit by going by points.

Ra was the Winner of the 2009 Columbus Day Massacre Tournament Event he takes home the Gold!

Congratulations Ra~! At a close 2nd SpiffCat takes Silver! Jack was bringing up 3rd spot with the Bronze!

I will have complete coverage posted tonight for you all along with some really great Pictures~!

Yah... not so sure I like the Intel from the dead bit. I don't think it came into play in the earlier team tourneys... I think it's okay to jump around and look at what's going on but calling out enemy positions by jumping to the other team doesn't seem quite right. If one team eliminates members of the other team, the other team starts to get a "bonus radar scan" from the ghost players.

It was a great tourney, though! We defintely got out-played in the 4th Qtr! Man, but the next time I'm alone in a daishi going against a Nova and a long-range missile Kodi while caught in the open-field with no cover, don't be surpised if I leg the Nova to slow it down so I can pick off its arms! grin

Uhhhh...I dont remember that the last tourney either. I ASSUMED it was being done on both sides since Buns was sitting next to Jack. If that WASNT the case then I prefer to abdicate the position of winner and retry the Tourney at some point. I dont want the win if it wasnt fair in this regard.......huhhuh?

No, no! It was still a good tourney!

We were getting intel reports from Buns, too! Just sorta off by 180 degrees... lol!

The turning point of the game was when you were somehow behind our spawn, with zark coming in from one side while CC was still on the other. We got killed a few times there and there was some panic in the ranks. I felt like that newbie commander in Aliens 2 when his troops were getting slaughtered in their first encounter with the aliens... "Uh, uh... lay down a suppressing fire... and uh, uh..." LOL!!!

The nova was an excellent choice for a commander mech in that map. Very mobile with good fire power! I almost expected you to take the evil vulture, though! Definitely learned a few things in that round!

Ok, well thats cool then. Maybe we need to "define" the dead pilot parameters for future matches, whats ok to do, whats not ok, etc...Jack? What sayeth you? Maybe we can introduce a rule that says: "Once each team has a dead pilot on EACH side, that Intel reports can be given to the team pilots that are still alive." Or something to that effect. Once the scenario does apply, an announcement could be made publicly by the chat feature: "Dead pilot Intel is ACTIVE". Or something to that effect....I think it is a fun feature to use, and it makes it more interesting when it gets down to just a couple pilots on the field and may eliminate ALOT of running around aimlessly on a search and destroy mission. Especially if a Raven is in the top left corner of the map, underwater, breathing out of a tube...hehe

That sounds like a good idea, Ra!

It could be that we don't need to set the rules in stone, but let the final two mech commanders agree on the parameters before the match begins. For example, I think the intel would help speed up the game in gatorbait, but it's not really necessary in a small place like inner city.

So before the match, the commanders can decide:
1) Allow ghost intel (from dead pilots)
2) Wait until each side has 1 ghost before intel begins

If both commanders agree to a rule then it is in force. If one commander does not agree, then the rule is not in force.

Using this protocol, we could come up with lots of variations that the commanders can agree upon:
- HLA
- Legging Allowed
- Maximum chassis size
- Etc.
- DBall rules

It could make for some interesting final matches!

Yesh...

You could even have commanders who agree on allowing HE and Suicides! Then you have to watch out for fast, sneaky, terrorist mechs trying to kill the leader by blowing up near them!

Leader has 5 lives. 2 terrorist mechs have 10 attempts!

In this variation, rather than giving folks set lives, you can see how many times you can kill the enemy commander in a given time limit. At the end, if there is a tie, you can then have a sudden-death round!
