July Tournament!
The First Tournament of its Kind!

The rules are simple:
  • Maps are yet to be determined, they will be posted in this thread once decided before hand
  • Players will be fighting 15 minute NHUA ATTRITION games, ONE 30 Minute NHUA Attrition and a final round of TEAM ATTRITION
  • Chaining/Grouping Weapons is Allowed
  • NO INTENTIONAL LEGGING ALLOWED
  • The 2 players with the lowest scores at the end of each 15 minute game will be eliminated
  • Eliminated players will be allowed to participate in further rounds but their scores will not increase from the moment of elimination
  • Rounds will be fought until only 2 players remain!
  • In the final round, the two remaining mech players form teams from the eliminated pilots. The two top players are the Commanders for each team. The final round then plays out as a Team Battle!

For the Final Team Battle *F5 rules or Timed:
The goal of the Final Round is to be the first Team to kill the opposing Commander 5 times (or the most times in the allotted time). Thus, the goal is to attack the other commander AND Defend your Commander. This forces each team to decide (as in CTF) who stays to defend and who goes out to attack. Or maybe the commander decides to take his whole crew over to the enemy to attack. It should lead to interesting tactics. **Th

The Tournament starts at 9pm EST, Sunday, 7-19-9 .

Round 1: 15 Minutes -Map- Coliseum
Round 2: 15 Minutes -Map- Gatorbait
Round 3: 15 Minutes -Map- Frostbite
Round 4: 15 Minutes -Map- Dustbowl
Round 5: 30 Minutes -Map- Timberline
Round 6: 15 Minutes -Map- Wetlands
Round 7: 15 Minutes -Map- Brawl Crater
Round 8: 15 Minutes -Map- Inner City
Round 9: 30 Minutes -Map- Yet to be determined. Either: TEAM Palace Gates / Inner City / Lunacy / Gatorbait

*Other rules and info*
The Lucky Dog Pass
Server will remain UNLOCKED for the first round of the tournament. Due to someone always disconnecting and throwing off the number of players disqualified. Other players wanting a shot will be allowed to enter the first round and it will be up to them to make up for lost time. Another way to get the lucky dog is if someone forfeits their place during or after a round. The second to last person gets the "lucky dog pass" This will keep the game flow steady and always loose 2 people after each map.

*F5 Rule System (Final Round)
First to 5. You have 5 lives each. Run out of lives your game is over. In this case, kill the Commander 5 times to win the Tournament. Think of the other Commander as the END BOSS.
-cool

**To allot teams to the final round according to when they were eliminated:
First player eliminated in the tourney goes to the lower scoring commander
second player eliminated goes to the higher scoring commander
third to the lower commander
fourth to the higher
...etc.

If someone disconnects, throwing off the order. Just adjust:
first goes to lower
second player disconnected
third to higher

Some rules and maps are subject to change, maps will be determined at a later date, you can request maps at certain times/rounds! Just let us know in this thread - just speak up!

I think this is a great idea jack n' buns. Its more interesting than the regular tourneys. Should be a blast.

If I may make a suggestion. To avoid complaining about a certain team getting more "seasoned" players than the other team in the last round; we should allot players according to when they were eliminated:

first player eliminated in the tourney goes to the lower scoring commander
second player eliminated goes to the higher scoring commander
third to the lower commander
fourth to the higher
...etc.

If someone disconnects, throwing off the order. Just adjust:

first goes to lower
second player disconnected
third to higher

I like CC's strategy for picking the final teams.

The only thing I wonder about is the map for the final round. Coliseum is great for duels between two mechs but perhaps not the best for a team battle. I mean we've done that before but it may be more interesting in a place with more terrain. Maybe we can change it for the next time we do this. It should still be very cool to try for this first go-round!

I see your point spiffy. Some maps are good for team battles and some aren't. For example:

In palace, you have to avoid the team 1 & 2 and use teams that are more evenly positioned...if I remember, its teams 5 and 6...don't take my word on that one though. Team 1 can easily snipe out the opposing commander because they're on higher ground. Therefore a change is necessary in teams.

However, If its a contest of most interesting and fair map for a final round, then my vote is for frostbite. Lets see what others have to say on the subject.

I really like the idea of a tourney with a kick to it. Lets polish off the details and see what everyone likes. cool

Hi everyone!

Thx Yard for posting tourney information at SoE forum (btw, only shoutbox works for non-admins atm, there's a bug in the current forum version so only admins can create regular posts).

Some ppl asked me to make a post here at WPPC forum:

To get our players together, which are on different time zones, the time schedule would need some shifting. 9pm EST is 3am CET, no chance that's too late for Euro ppl. However, it would be great to have some games with SoE + WPPC on Sundays, so what about let's say 4 or 5 pm EST = 10 or 11 pm CET? Of course that's up to the server owner...

Jack & Bun what do you think?

I understand exactly what you mean, unfortunately that would mean noon for the USA west coast players and I've found many of those folks don't get a chance to play until around 7-9 EST. I will however have the server up at 4 or 5 and we will see if we get enough folks. Only one way to tell for sure, right? smiley

So you guys keep checking the server and of course this thread for further details.

Hope to see lotsa folks on Sunday!
