hey, im new to the game. i am trying to go online, but it wont let me. i went to the site it lists, but it says that msn will no longer host the list, so what i was wondering, is that is there a server list still, or do i need to manually add them?

Welcome Fox,

Since you are new to the server, bear with me. This is assuming you are running Windows XP..if you are running Vista...let us know..there are a different set of rules for Vista to work.

Please make sure you are patched up to PR3, that link is posted (as with all patches) just below the shout box at the bottom of this page.

You will find that WPPC is most accessible on Wednesday nights as well as Sundays.

However, server is dedicated, and should be accessible 24/7 for your testing.

You will want to load the map paks below the shout box as well...SoE also has a few nice maps if you plan on playing their server as well...for SoE links:

Good luck, and let us know is you still have problems.

Couldn't resist. Welcome to the site! So, how'd ya hear about us? Anyways - So let me get the facts right.

You installed MW4 Venge and installed The Official PR3 PATCH to get your game up to speed. Right?

Started up your game - hit multiplayer - set your connection to something like "56K" and what ever ya have like cable or dsl (even if your not on 56k, ya might want to set it to that speed. Many players find they get the least amount of lag with that setting, regardless of dsl or cable) From there you'll notice that Microsoft pulled the plug for zone back a few years ago.... no servers. BUT! There are still several active servers out there. You just have to put in the ip addresses manually.

They are:
Quote:
SoE Frost:
dc7jzb.dyndns.org & mw4frost.dyndns.org
(Fridays & Sunday)

WPPC:
WPPC.SERVEGAME.ORG
(Wednesday & Sunday)

WoF Dillion:
99.174.194.219
(TBA)

TR:
68.98.212.251
(free server, nothing scheduled)

Also, once you get that set up ya might need to grab the maps that everyone plays. Easy way to do it is with this:
http://www.oldtimersclan.net/H/MW-FatMapPak.html

This should self install and all you have to do is tell it where your MW4 directory is. It will set up the rest. Easy mode ftw.

Hope to see ya sometime, next time us folks will play is on Sunday. The server (wppc.servegame.org) us up all the time. So if you need to test your connection and set up some mechs before hand feel free to use the server. I know that WoF Dilions server has some bots in it so if ya need some warming up ya might try there. With a community like this, it is a good idea to be vocal and tell folks on sites like ours when your going to play (if it isn't a pre-set night like Wednesdays or Sundays) if your looking for some folks to play with. The shout box at the bottom of the page is an excellent way to try to drum up some players on the fly.

<S>

Ah! Windows 7.. Hawk!? You out there? You know any tips with 7?

For now, I am going to assume that Windows isn't the problem (cause I don't know much about 7) so I will ask; do you use a router? The problem may be as simple as ports. For ports I can refer ya to this:

Well in light of everything that happend, I thought I would RE post some of the questions AND answers to help people if they ever have these problems.

Q> I'm trying to host and my server doesn't show up in ZONE. Why?

A> The router is blocking your server. You must open ports in your VIRTUAL SERVER or DMZ.

Enable Disable (click enabled)

Name MW Server port 1

Private IP 192.168.0.100 (or whatever the address of your server is)

Protocal Type Select both from the dropdown

Private Port 27999

Public Port 27999

click the radio/check box button for always

click submit and it will add the rule. Repeat this process for each of the ports. i.e.

Enable Disable (Click enabled)

Name MW Server port 2

Private IP 192.168.0.100 (or whatever the IP of your server is)

Protocal Type (Select Both from the dropdown)

Private Port 28805

Public Port 28805

click the radio button for always

click submit

Do this for the following information:

The following TCP ports must be open:
27999, 28805, 28806, 28807, 28808
47624 Inbound
2300-2400 Inbound

The following UDP port must be open:
28800

Q> I keep getting knocked off line when the other computer on my network connects to the same server.

A> Microsoft Sucks. Use this to get around that.
It's called DX port and it will let two or more computers use the direct play ports behind a router. Here is the link http://www.puffinsoft.com/

Well, Saturday "11:00pm central USA time" is Sunday 6:00am central European time, we are 7 hrs ahead at the moment - will check your TS tomorrow, probably somewhat later wink

But maybe you could try this steps as a first attempt to fix the problem:

1) Assign your computers static LAN ip's
2) Install DXPort on all Computers running Mech
3) Make the router port forwarding rules

How to assign static LAN ip's:

http://wppc.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=Trouble&action=display&num=1192985411

There are 2 ways to assign static LAN ip's:
1) in the router menu
2) at PC network settings

If you plan to unplug the router from time to time, better choose method 2 and assigned your PC to address 192.168.1.100 (example) and the other PC to address 192.168.1.101 (example) at their local network settings.
Network settings => your LAN or WLAN connection / right click = properties => TCP/IP / right click = properties =>
Fill in the entries:
fix IP: 192.168.1.100
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
standard gateway: [your router's IP]
DNS server: [your router's IP]

Then these settings will last, you can leave your router with the default DHCP server settings, don't need to assign static IP at router.

Router and PC setup for DXPort:
http://wppc.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=Trouble&action=display&num=1190616385

You cannot forward the same ports to several machines at same time. This results in messages like "error. port conflict with address 192.168.0.102". This problem can be easily fixed by DXPort running on both PCs in your LAN. DXPort splits the DirectPlay 2300-2400 port range into separate ranges for each PC.

Only the server machine needs the 4 port range entries mentioned below, a client only needs 1 entry (from the 2300-2400 port range) .

Plz try the following router settings (all entries for TCP/UDP):
Note: DXPort must be running on both machines with exactly the same port ranges as defined at the router.

- the server machine (your PC) gets the ports:
2302-2311
47624
27999
28800-28809

- the other client PC (Siaboy's PC) gets the ports:
2312-2321

DXPort must be installed at both PC's. Here's the DXPort config for both PCs:
The server gets:
Start Port: 2302
End Port: 2311

The other PC gets:
Start Port: 2312
End Port: 2321

Hope this helps smiley

Also this post is relevant, Its from me and Frost back last year some time. This totally fixed my problem with ports and hadn't had a problem since. wink Hope it helps you, btw, THANKS AGAIN FROST!
cool

Whole topic is found HERE

These are old posts that together should help ya out with ports.. I am crossing my fingers that you have a router and that is what the trouble is. Routers are tricky devils- I've had more problems out of routers than any other computer problem.

If you do have a router and this looks greek to you, then don't worry. Just post some info about your router and if you an 'ctrl+print screen' your router settings screen and I will try to walk ya through it. It looks harder than it is.

<S> Got to get this fixed before tomorrow night!

Well now, first off, WELCOME! good to have some fresh blood around here to keep me from going crazy from hanging around all these old people wink

Anyways, what jack posted about the router configuration should fix any router problems as far as i am concerned,(and i have extensive networking training now) and Windows 7 is most definetly NOT the problem, as its amazing (i have worked extensivly with win 7 and never had a single problem with it). The most common problem that i see across all flavours of windows (yes XP too) is the damn firewall, Windows firewall is incredibly annoying, stops you from running many applications and just plain slows you down. I prefer to turn mine off, since i have confidence in my ability to not navigate to an unsafe site, but for most people, the best soloution would be to simply go into the control panel, find the windows firewall settings and create an exception for mechwarrio vengance so that it doesnt interfere with your operations.

Good luck, post back with error codes, etc if your get any. Be SPECIFIC, i might be a computer technician now, but i cant do anything if i dont know exactly what is going on.

Alright then, good luck

Hawk

*Edit*

Can you see any of the servers? or are you simply unable to join?
