I have been using this new program (free of course) that allows you to load up to 2 gigs of data and easily share it with folks...it's called DROPBOX

Basically, it acts like a virtual memory stick which can be shared.... grin grin grin

http://www.dropbox.com/

Anywho....I know Jack copied the entire file from Buns machine to his to make it work...why not copy that file to DROPBOX and post the link here for folks to download in end their misery?!

should work ...right!?

(Jack...you now have an action item!)

OOOOO IC! I need to drop it in there! I'll have to tweek my folder so everyone wont be playing as me with wppc tags by default when they download it... LOL! . man... you guys will end up downloading all my best mech configs, too! Bums! That took me ages! Hehe, probably for the best. Puretech can be a bit hard to get use too. Adding mechs in the download makes sense.......

*Problem*
The maps are like 7 GIGS! The game is 2 gigs but the whole file is like 7 or 8 gigs! We need a list of what maps I can cut and the game still work correctly. Am I correct to assume that I can not include any maps/missions/usermissions and the MXC could be used for just maps? Again though, we fall back to the MXC being used at some point in time... BAH!

This is a great idea but we gotta get some facts down first. I don't want to be uploading this thing like 5 times.... lol...

Hmm.. Could the map files be broken? Later the user can throw all the maps into the same folder...... ...

I like this........

yea, the game is pretty small for it being the actual game in all.... the maps though.. there are SO MANY. Over the past 10 years this game has gotten hundreds... you never know which map a server is playing...... everybody seems to have their favorites. Here at wppc, we play mostly the maps from Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance 3.0. Those rawk! But there are so many different ways to play this game.. fantastic game! Just gigantic maps.... lol

Yeah. It should work. Just create a new zip file, name it MW4, post it on Skype, and hope to god you won't need WinRAR. Of course I have it, so no biggie right there.

A file that big would need winrar I think...like volumes of the same file then they all merge... bah. I'll look into both of these however, I think you've (Hitty) got it working! All you need is the updates now! Way to go! Quite the feat getting that to install so quickly.... for some.... it is a much much harder process......*pouts*

Downloading the game via MXC took like 2 minutes, and my Internet connection isn't even any good.

So, what's the status on the MW4 files, Jack? I'd love to see your configs. grin

hmmm expected Yardbird to give me some info... he's MIA.. I'll just wing it! I'm making the file now and loading it up.... I can't really tell you how long it will take though..... Keep a watch on this thread for updates on that... I'm trying.

I'm going to make a file that has NO maps... you will need to download those separately...

OH,,,did I say...McAffee is a virus you pay for?

If you MW4.exe is getting deleted...then McAffee is still at work...this is a known issue documented over at MekTek;s website.

like here:
http://www.mektek.net/forums/topic/157978-mcafee/page__p__1229454__hl__mcaffee__fromsearch__1#entry1229454

and here for example:
http://www.mektek.net/forums/topic/156997-trojan-horse-included-in-free-release/page__st__20__p__1225661__hl__mcaffee__fromsearch__1#entry1225661

All I can say is what Jack did...some where either your Shell.dll or MW4.exe are getting block, deleted, quarantined, etc..from McAffee...

If the issue is you just cannot play online...but can see the servers..then we prolly have a router /firewall config issue.

If you are behind a router...Turn Off the windows firewall as it is redundant and inferior to the routers firewall..

so...before I confuse things more...can you see the servers and just cannot connect?
