AT1 Battletech Info
« Thread started on: May 29th, 2009, 1:55pm »
Jack, here is the info we talked about on TS the other night...I have tried the Beta and it is VERY cool!.the new graphics are SOOOOOOOOO much better than MW4....also...I just assumed y'all knew about this!..Opps!..anywho............enjoy!
Remember...MekTek has a special board up that has all the details!
Q: What game is this a mod for? A: None, It is a standalone game which uses the Battletech rules. The Mechs from MW2 & MW2 Ghost Bear are the 1st in the game. The graphics are a bit more up to date & the Omni Mech use a Pod system.
Q: What is a Pod system? A: The Pod system has 2 main parts, 1. Lets you change the weapons around (Per CBT rules) & 2. The Arm & Torsos graphical appearance changes.
Q: What are the differences between Omnimechs and Battlemechs? A: Omnimechs are 'Mechs designed to be able to get very quick electronic equipment changes and weaponry changes of any kind. Their only limitation is that you cannot change their internal and armor setup, same goes for engine type and ratings. Battlemechs are strictly the opposite to all of this, and use a MW4-like system for installing components, which limits their customization on that area.
Q: Some of my weapons (torso mounted ones) dont follow the mouse reticle, whats up with that? A: AT1:BT uses the "Cone of Fire" rule for weapons put on the 'Mech's torso, thus, they will follow the secondary reticle thats mostly on the center of the HUD. This "annoyance" wont apply to missile launchers however, and will completely disappear when a Targeting Computer is installed, which will make all weapons to follow the mouse reticle, regardless their location.
This feature is under development considerations and in the future there might be an option in the game settings to disable it.
Q: My weapons are not accurate, even if they are mounted on the arms A: AT1:BT might still need some fixing on that area. However, your 'Mech's arms will loose their accuracy and movement speed whenever you loose one of the actuator criticals responsible for that. Again, to have maximum weapon accuracy, install a Targeting Computer on your 'Mech.
Q: Will the game run in Windows Vista? A: Yes, but you have to run it as an Administrator
Q: How do I play online? A: Multiplayer is not coded as of yet, right now only instant action is work.
Q: Will you be supporting Joysticks A: Yes we will be supporting Joysticks, there just not coded yet.
Q: Will MekTek release the Source Code for AT1:BT? A: The Answer is No. We do not have any plans on releasing the Source Code for this project.
Q: Will there be resource editing tools for AT1:BT? A: Yes, we will be making Tools to modify game resources. A map editor is being made by Sake. And a Resource editor idea is being tossed around by the MekTek Team. Along with a Texture/Camo/Insignia editor.
No plan ever survives first contact with the enemy.

I downloaded and played a bit. Controls very flacky to me. Too much on the keyboard. When J-stick is enabled should be nice. The Summoner (Thor) looks fantastic in the video. I will have to drive something big and slow for a long time to get used to the feel. I noticed they had the Dire Wolf (Diashi) as one of the bots.

Have been playing the beta for a while. Here is my comment to MekTek in their bug reports.
IMO, the controls are extremely combersome. and twitchy. They should be smooth like MW4 controls. Have not tried to use joystick yet, but fact that targeting comp. cannot be used with it makes it largely useless except possibly for torso twist. One needs 4 hands for this game. At my age, I do not have the patience to play something like a highly complex flight sim. with it's huge learning curve. Besides, I have too much arthritis in my hands for the requisite nimble dancing across the keyboard.

I dl the beta.....similar control issues..even though I was using the JS. I am disappointed in the graphics performance as well...maybe better on my Vista 64 machine (when it gets out the shop)
